Allen Berger, Ph.D. received a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of California, Davis. He has over 50 years of clinical experience and has trained counselors and psychotherapists throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. Dr. Berger was trained by Walter Kempler, M.D., a pioneer in relationally based Gestalt Therapy for over 20 years and became a member of The Kempler Institute's International Training Staff. Currently Dr. Berger is the clinical director of The Institute for Optimal Recovery and Emotional Sobriety and The Institute for Gestalt Experiential Psychotherapy. Dr. Berger has written extensively about the process of recovery and is best known for integrating modern psychotherapy with the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. His most recent book, 12 Essential Insights for Emotional Sobriety, is considered a definitive work on emotional sobriety.
